This particular series is made from reclaimed railroad steel from 1912
The head of the hatchet is hand forged completely out of this rail steel and is fully hardened and tempered to ensure long lasting durability. Each head is stamped with the date of the rail (1912), the serial number of the hatchet and the makers mark on the front.
The handle is 16 inches long made from hickory and fitted with a black walnut wedge.
Each hatchet comes with a custom brown leather sheath that has been made to protect the user from the razor sharp edge.
